Procession in Madrid Easter Week

Procession of SANTÍSIMO CRISTO DE LOS ALABARDEROS

Easter week in Spain is always a bit surprising for those of us not originally from here.  I happened to catch one of the “Semana Santa” processions here in Madrid right in front of the Royal Palace.  This one is called SANTÍSIMO CRISTO DE LOS ALABARDEROS and was really much less dramatic than ones I have seen before on television.  Don’t let the guys in the pointy hats creep you out, they have nothing to do with the KKK, they wear the “Capirote” having its origin in Catholicism long before the KKK was founded. The procession was very quiet and solemn, absent of the singing we see in the south of Spain.
